Here are some pictures from the “official part of the ceremony. Again, this whole thing takes place as a kick off to the end of their senior year. During May, all the seniors do not come to school so they can study for their “school leaver’s” exams. At least this is what I’ve been told… They don’t have finals at the end of every semester like we do in the United States, they only have them at the end of their schooling. These scores then are what decide whether or not they get into college- so they are important. At any rate, the ribbon ceremony is one of the most important parts of this evening, so here are some pictures. They stand in rows with their class and their head teacher. The head teacher pins the ribbon on and then there are more speeches. It was quite interesting. The choir also sang – you can see Barna (my goth kid) in the back getting into the clapping. They sang “Oh Happy Day.” It was about 2 octaves too high for the soloist, but entertaining none-the-less.
