Mom had it set in her mind that she wanted to visit the Benedictine monastery and Abbey in Melk, Austria -only about an hour/hour and a half from Vienna. Since we have a connection with the Benedictines through St. Bens and St. Johns, she was excited to go and see what the monastery here was like. It was a nice train ride out- especially nice to see some of the countryside.
the map on the train - if you click on the picture you can see Tata made it onto the map - lower right corner :) (use the "back button" to return)
the Abbey at Melk. Is Abbey capitalized?
hiking up to the abbey

Creative coffin used during the Baroque? era, where the church was toning down on frivolous additions and simplifying many different aspects of the Catholic Tradition. You put the body in the casket, put the casket over the grave, release the lever and drop the body in the ground leaving the casket empty to be used again. I told my parents this is the way I am going to bury them... :)
dad's solo picture for the funeral board (it's a running joke? with us, I take so many photos of them so I have something to put on the boards for their funerals.) I told my dad that they were most likely not going to die together so he should have some photos by himself for the board - hence the laughter
this is our tour guide - I swear she was a nunnery reject. It just felt like she desperately wanted to be a part of the religious vocation, but didn't quite cut it, so she became a tour guide. She was sweet and soft spoken, seemed very much like she was in training to be religious, but for some reason, it just didn't work out.
Some carved oranges. They were beautiful, and the woman came out and saw me taking a picture, so she gave me one. If only it were that easy to procure regular goods...
French fries from a vending machine. We didn't try them, but I can't imagine that they were anything like McDonalds'
