School Leaving

On Thursday of last week, we had the school leaving ceremony – the graduation.  There were no classes all day, and the school leavers had their final celebration.  The day started with the younger students decorating the school and the classrooms of the seniors with more flowers than I have ever seen in my life.  I bet there were no less than 2000 Gerber Daisies throughout the school – not to mention all the other flowers you could think of.  Starting at 10:30, each class walked around the entire school singing for each class as a goodbye to them.  They walk in a single file line, and put one hand on the shoulder of the person in front of them.  Each class gets sung to, so I hung out with the 9th graders while the processions went throughout the school.  It was really an interesting feeling, as you could hear all 6 groups echoing throughout the school.  They were singing Hungarian folk songs and sang the whole time they were walking.  It was like nothing I had ever experienced before.  Each school leaver also received a little pouch that said the years they attended Eötvös with a friendship cracker, picture of the school and some salt inside.
